In 1989, the New Kids On The Block were the big teen idols.  Milli Vanilli had the number 5 song for the year -- kind of.  The songs of Milli Vanilli were not actually the voices of the "faces" of the group, Rob Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan.  It was a big scandal; Milli Vanilli had to return its Grammy; and the "group" broke up.  Rap sadly made it to the top songs of the year for the first time.
